Forge Cottage is situated in the market town of Helmsley on the southern edge of the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Helmsley is situated on the A170 road from Thirsk to Scarborough about 15 miles from Thirsk. Within easy access of Helmsley are York, Pickering, Scarborough and Whitby.
York (with its famous Minster and Roman Walls) is 23 miles and a 45 minute drive and Thirsk (with the World of James Herriot and race course) is 15 miles and a 20 minute drive.
Leeds Bradford and Teeside airports are the closest and both are about a one hour drive. A direct train service from London to Thirsk takes a approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes and Thirsk station (taxis can be booked) is less than 30 minutes from Forge Cottage. York station is 45 minutes drive to the cottage (taxi rank available). Whilst there is plenty of interest within walking distance, a car is recommended if you really want to explore the North York Moors.
The famous Star Inn at Harome is a 5 minute drive and the F&H (Fox and Hounds) at Sinnington is a 15 minute drive.
